Each year The American Legion accepts nominations for its Eagle Scout of the Year beginning November 1 and closing March 1. Candidates must submit a complete nomination packet to their appropriate American Legion Department (state) so that it is received by March 1.
State-level selection and forwarding
The Selection Committee for each American Legion Department will review its nominees and choose the Eagle Scout judged to be the strongest in that state.
