FAEE Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Foundation of the Association of Energy Engineers
Overview
Since 1983, the Foundation of the Association of Energy Engineers (FAEE) has funded scholarships to support students pursuing studies in energy engineering, energy management, environmental engineering, and sustainability. We invest in the education of emerging professionals who aim to create meaningful, positive change in the energy sector.
Designated Scholarships
The Foundation awards several scholarships funded in honor of individuals or programs that have significantly supported AEE and FAEE.
- Al Thumann Scholarship
- Pays tribute to the late founder and Executive Director of AEE, widely regarded as the “Father of energy efficiency.”
- The top three applicants will each receive $5,000.
- Ruth Whitlock Scholarship
- Celebrates Ruth Whitlock’s 35 years of service as AEE’s former Executive Administrator, her support for chapter leadership, and her advocacy for students and women advancing their careers.
- The top international female applicant receives $2,500.
- Konstantin Lobodovsky Scholarship
- Honors a Past President of AEE and a Hall of Fame inductee.
- One $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually.
- Professor Esther Chow and Family Scholarship
- Recognizes the late Professor Chow and her family’s commitment to the energy profession.
- Two $2,000 scholarships are awarded each year.
- Ruth Whitlock CWEEL Scholarship
- Acknowledges AEE’s CWEEL Division and its work promoting career opportunities for young students and women.
- The top U.S. female applicant receives $2,500.
Who Is Eligible
This scholarship program is open to current undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in accredited colleges or universities in programs related to engineering, sustainability, energy management, environmental engineering, or closely related fields.
How to Apply
- All individual applicants must be nominated by a local AEE Chapter.
- Applications must be submitted electronically to the applicant’s local AEE Chapter by the April deadline each year. (Chapters should consult FAEE scholarship procedures before forwarding applications.)
Notification Timeline
Scholarship results are posted annually by August 1st. Applicants selected for awards will be notified by email.
Required Application Materials
Applicants should prepare and submit the following items:
- Student Application
- Complete either the US STUDENT APPLICATION or the INTL STUDENT APPLICATION (download and fill out the appropriate form).
- Current Transcripts
- Unofficial transcripts are accepted. Transcripts must show dates, institution name(s), and clear student identification. Applications may be audited. International applicants must submit English translations of all supporting documents.
- Essay
- A 200–300 word essay explaining your motivation for pursuing a career in the energy industry, your demonstrated financial need, and your professional and personal goals.
- Recommendation Letter(s)
- One or two letters are acceptable. Recommenders can be faculty members, AEE Chapter leaders, or representatives from corporate or non-profit organizations.
- Additional Documentation
- Optional supporting materials such as awards, volunteer records, or other relevant experience (limit: two pages).
