Bodie McDowell Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Outdoor Writers Association of America
Introduction
The Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) provides financial support for students pursuing careers in outdoor communication through scholarships and fellowships. Below is information specific to the Bodie McDowell Scholarship, including who is eligible, what the selection looks for, award amounts, and how to apply.
Bodie McDowell Scholarship
Established in memory of former OWAA President Bodie McDowell, this scholarship is presented annually to at least three students. Award amounts vary each year, with individual grants typically ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
Eligibility
- Open to qualified undergraduate and graduate students.
- Applicants must be studying or pursuing work in outdoor communications, such as print journalism, photography, film, art, poetry, or broadcasting.
Selection considerations
The primary factors in choosing recipients are a clear, substantial plan for a career in outdoor communications, submission of work samples, and letters of recommendation. Academic record is taken into account but is not among the top three deciding elements.
Application period and how to apply
Applications accept submissions from January 1 through March 30. A submission page and full guidelines are posted on Submittable.com when the application opens on January 1; the page closes automatically on March 30. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of that Submittable page to view the complete guidelines before applying.
