Yates Scholarship Program

Overview
The Yates Scholarship Program awards college financial assistance to employees of GSGA Member Clubs and their eligible dependents. Established in honor of Charles, Dan and Danny Yates of Atlanta, the awards are granted on the basis of demonstrated financial need, personal character, academic performance and work experience at a GSGA Member Club. For the 2025–26 academic year the program will fund 69 Yates Scholars with a total of $344,999 in grants. The new-applicant submission period each year runs January 1 through March 1.
Who may apply
- Current employees of GSGA Member Clubs and their dependents are eligible to submit applications.
- Scholarships may be renewed. For renewal eligibility, the GSGA Member Club through which the student qualified must remain an active Member Club of the GSGA.
Program history
Now in its 38th year, the Yates Scholarship Program has supported more than 400 scholars.
Application requirements (all required before an application will be reviewed)
1. Completed Yates Scholarship application (includes two required essays)
2. Academic documentation (see details below)
3. Two letters of recommendation from supervisors at the GSGA Member Club(s) where the applicant and/or parent is employed
Academic documentation (required by applicant category)
- Incoming high school seniors/freshmen:
- High school transcript showing grades through the first semester of senior year*
- SAT or ACT scores*
- One recommendation letter from a teacher, school counselor, or other school administrator. That letter must be returned to the applicant with the author’s signature and must include a school phone number and email address.
- Current college freshmen:
- College transcript showing a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- College sophomores and juniors:
- College transcript showing a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
*Applicants are responsible for ensuring submitted transcripts are NOT password-protected.
Submission instructions and deadline
- The new-applicant application window is January 1 through March 1. For the 2026–27 academic year, the deadline for new applicants is 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 1. All required materials must be received by that deadline to be considered for the full scholarship amount.
- All materials must be submitted together as one complete package. Transcripts and other documents should be opened and attached to the application (not submitted as password-protected files).
- Photographs are not permitted with the application.
- Applications will be reviewed once complete; applicants will be advised if a personal interview is needed.
