Overview
Barbara Caras, a longtime advocate for high-quality film entertainment, is honored through this scholarship. Created in her memory, the award supports students from the local community who are pursuing film-related studies.
Eligibility
- Must reside in Sarasota County or Manatee County, Florida
- Must have completed at least one full academic year at an accredited college in Florida
- Must be currently majoring in one of the following areas: Film, Computer Animation, Creative Writing, Motion Design, or Illustration
- Must submit at least one sample of creative work with the application
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
Application Questions (required written responses)
1. Personal background and career goals: Describe yourself and your aspirations for a career in the film industry. Explain how film and cinema have shaped your professional direction. (250–500 words)
2. Career focus within film: Identify the specific area of film you intend to make your career and list other production or film-related areas that interest you beyond your declared major. (150–300 words)
3. Most influential film: Name the film that has had the greatest impact on your life and explain why. (200–350 words)
4. Source of inspiration: Describe a project, experience, or individual connected to your career goals that has most inspired you, and explain why. (200–300 words)
