Castagra Roofing Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Castagra
Description
This program supports people who want to build a career in roofing or closely related building-industry trades, with a particular emphasis on innovation and sustainability. It targets individuals who are actively pursuing practical skills and knowledge that advance environmentally responsible practices and new technical approaches within the field. The award is intended to lower financial barriers for those beginning careers in roofing, waterproofing, construction, or similar applied trades. It is outcome-oriented: applicants should demonstrate how their work or studies will contribute to better, more sustainable building practices.
**Quick facts:**
- Supports careers in roofing and related building-industry trades.
- Emphasizes innovation and sustainability in practice or study.
- Intended to reduce financial barriers for early-career individuals.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must be pursuing a post-secondary program (college or vocational) in roofing or a clearly applicable related field such as waterproofing or other construction trades. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine interest in innovation and/or sustainability as part of their career focus. Eligibility is restricted to citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada. Applications that do not meet these baseline criteria will not be considered.
**Key eligibility points:**
- Enrolled in a post-secondary college or vocational program in roofing or a related building-industry field.
- Demonstrable passion for innovation and/or sustainability.
- Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Non‑students and Alternate Applicants
The program recognizes that post-secondary study is not the only valid pathway into the roofing industry. Applicants who are not planning to attend school are eligible for consideration if they meet the program’s other requirements and can clearly demonstrate commitment to entering the industry. Non-student applicants must submit a concise plan explaining how any awarded funds will be used to support their career goals and provide evidence of dedication (for example, work experience, apprenticeships, projects, or professional references). These alternate applicants are evaluated on the same core values of innovation and sustainability as student applicants.
**What non-students must provide:**
- Clear explanation of intended use of scholarship funds.
- Evidence of dedication to entering the roofing or related industry (experience, projects, or references).
- Must otherwise satisfy the program’s eligibility standards.
Award Details
The program awards two monetary prizes: a Winner award of $1,500 USD and a Runner‑Up award of $500 USD. Awards are distributed as one-time payments to help recipients cover education, tools, training, certification, or early-career costs that support their development in the field. These awards are not renewable, and no ongoing funding is guaranteed beyond the one-time disbursement. Recipients should plan how the funds will be used to maximize impact on their career progression.
**Award summary:**
- Winner: $1,500 USD; Runner‑Up: $500 USD.
- One-time awards; not renewable.
- Funds intended for education, training, tools, or career-start expenses.
Reapplication and Renewal
Although awards themselves are not renewable, eligible applicants may apply to the program again in subsequent years. Reapplication requires that the applicant continue to meet all stated eligibility criteria at the time of each submission. Each application is evaluated independently, so prior receipt of an award does not guarantee future selection. Applicants should update their submissions to reflect new achievements, projects, or plans that strengthen their case.
**Reapplication rules:**
- Annual reapplication permitted if eligibility is maintained.
- Each application is considered separately; prior awards do not confer advantage.
- Update materials to show progress and new contributions to innovation or sustainability.
