WTGHA Higher Education Grant — Overview
The Higher Education Grant was created to help Tribal Members access college and graduate study by covering education costs not met by other financial aid. The award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students and provides up to $4,500 per recipient. The application deadline each year is July 15.
Who is eligible
All enrolled members of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) who are currently attending or planning to attend an accredited institution of higher education may apply.
Application requirement — Brief essay
As a condition of applying for the Higher Education Grant, each candidate must submit a short essay that:
- Describes family connections to Martha’s Vineyard, and
- Reflects personally on your Wampanoag heritage, including how your current studies relate to that heritage.
Please include your full name and the date on the essay. Indicate whether you grant permission for the Tribe to publish your essay in future Tribal publications. If there have been any changes to your academic situation since last year, note those differences in your submission.
