Buffet Scholarships

Scholarship Sponsored by Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation

Value: $6,500.00
Awards Available: 5
Deadline : Feb 01, 2026

Introduction
For more than five decades, the Susan T. Buffett Foundation (STBF) has provided scholarships to help Nebraska students attend college. Awards are competitive and intended for students who are beginning college for the first time, reside in Nebraska, graduated from a Nebraska high school (or earned a Nebraska GED), plan to enroll at a public college in Nebraska, and can demonstrate financial need. Because the number of scholarships is limited, not all eligible applicants will receive an award.

Required items for the online application
Applicants must submit the following through the online portal:
- Completed application forms
- One letter of recommendation
- A financial document (as specified on the application)
- High school transcript
- Short-answer responses
- Signed consent form

Who is eligible
To qualify for a Susan T. Buffett Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be a Nebraska resident and satisfy the in-state residency rules of the institution you plan to attend
- DACA, undocumented, and DACA-eligible students may apply
- If you have questions about residency status, consult the Admissions Contact List provided by the college system
- Graduate from a Nebraska high school or receive a Nebraska GED
- Have a minimum cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 2.0
- Equivalent to 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or 77 on a 100-point scale
- Be a first-time college freshman (students who earned dual-enrollment credits in high school remain eligible)
- Plan to enroll at a Nebraska public institution, including:
- Nebraska Community Colleges: CCC, LPTC, MCC, MPCC, NECC, NICC, SCC, or WNCC
- Nebraska State College System: Chadron State, Peru State, or Wayne State
- University of Nebraska System: NCTA, UNK, UNL, UNMC, or UNO
- Demonstrate financial need to attend college
- Pell Grant eligibility is not required
- Student Aid Index (SAI) must be under 10,000

Selection process
All applications that meet eligibility requirements are reviewed and assigned scores. Award decisions consider multiple factors, including demonstrated financial need, academic record, the content of short-answer responses, and the recommendation.
